Case Study
Project Background
A telecommunications provider contracted with TRAXyL to provide fiber connectivity in multiple senior living communities, located in Longwood, Florida; Downers Grove, Illinois; Bloomington, Minnesota; and Austin, Texas. The connectivity was required at all four locations within a short time frame of 45 days.
The Problem
The main buildings had Internet connectivity however residents within these communities that lived in the villas did not. The provider had no effective way to install fiber from existing access points to their villas. The need for fast fiber was urgent, and TRAXyL provided a better alternative solution than traditional methods. They provided a fast, minimally disruptive installation of their flagship product, FiberTRAX – fiber-optic cable embedded into paved surfaces.
The FiberTRAX Solution
The team started at a senior living community outside of Austin, Texas, a senior living community. TRAXyL installed over 1,700 feet of fiber in 3 days, extending from roads into resident garages. They even color matched the Top Coat to garage floors. Next, at a retirement community in Longwood, Florida, a suburb of Orlando, they installed over 3,800 feet to 21 separate villas in 10 days, including vertical segments on concrete columns. The team moved next to a neighborhood located in Downers Grove, Illinois, where they installed over 1,900 feet in five days, mainly along gutter pans that are anticipated to extend the service life of the optical fiber. Finally, at a community in Bloomington, Minnesota, they installed over 1,100 feet in four days, with FiberTRAX placed along gutter pans.
TRAXyL was able to successfully complete all four installations of FiberTRAX in the paved surfaces, routing of cables through buildings and conduit installation, trenching where required, cable splicing, termination of all fibers and OTDR testing, and delivering a turnkey solution with immediate connectivity for the customers.
